ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After an All-MIAC Honorable Mention season as a first year, expectations were high for Ally Frantzick as she headed into her second season with the College of Saint Benedict hockey team. In the team’s first game of the season – and first game since February 2020 – she rose above and beyond even those expectations.
Frantzick had a career day in the net Saturday against the Pipers, stopping 46 shots to keep the Bennies in the game against one of the top-scoring offenses in the league. For her performance, Frantzick is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
As a first year in 2019-20, Frantzick recorded 40 or more saves twice, including a then-career best 44 saves against Gustavus on Valentine’s Day 2020. She only needed one game in 2021 to reach the 40-save milestone for the third time in her career.
After a relatively quiet first period, Frantzick stopped 21 of 22 shots in the second to keep the Pipers’ lead to one. She added 17 saves in the third to bring her total to an impressive 46 on the afternoon in the 3-1 loss.
Frantzick finished her first season fifth in the MIAC with 403 saves in 13 games played. She finished the year 5-6-1 with a .926 save percentage. Her 46 saves is currently good for the best in the conference after the first weekend of the shortened season.
Frantzick and her teammates take the ice again Saturday, Feb. 6, when they open MIAC play at Bethel.
