Jack Bowe, who is amid his second term as the CSB tennis coach, will begin his fourth season leading the Bennies in 2026-27 since coming back to lead the program prior to the 2022-23 season. In total, Bowe will begin his 12th season guiding Saint Benedict. After serving as the interim head coach during the fall of 2022-23, he was promoted to the head coach in the spring.
Bowe is no stranger to Bennie tennis as he served as the team's head coach for seven years in the mid-1990s, and guided CSB to top-five MIAC finishes in five of those seven seasons. CSB took third with a 9-2 conference mark and a 16-5 overall record in 1994-95, and finished fourth in his final season in 1996-97. Bowe earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors with CSB in 1993.
In his first year back at the helm in 2022-23, Bowe directed the Bennies to a 9-8 record with a 6-4 mark in the MIAC. For the Bennies it was the squad's first winning season in the MIAC since going 6-4 in 2013-14. CSB made its second straight appearance in the MIAC Postseason Tournament. Four members of the team made the All-MIAC team including Greta Nesbit (first team singles), Ashley Tarrolly (first team singles), Peyton Kopel (first team doubles) and Maria Bedford (honorable mention All-MIAC, All-MIAC Playoff Team). It was the first time since 2008 that CSB had four members honored by selection to the All-MIAC team. Bedford later was the MIAC Elite 22 recipient for tennis and earned third team College of Sports Communicator Academic All-America honors. Bedford, Kopel, Tarrolly and Jane Bodensteiner earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators.
After leaving CSB, Bowe took over the Johnnie tennis program, and he has remained there ever since. Since taking over at SJU in the 1998 season, Bowe is 228-231 overall and 115-103 in MIAC duals. The Johnnies have finished in the top five of the conference standings in five of the last seven seasons, including a pair of third-place finishes in 2018 and 2019.
Bowe earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors with the Johnnies in 2003 and again in 2019. Five athletes earned All-MIAC doubles honors and two more earned All-MIAC singles accolades under Bowe’s watch in 2022.
