Steve Howe-Veenstra enters his 25th season with the Saint Benedict basketball program as an assistant coach in 2025-26.13244

In his 24 seasons on the staff, CSB has gone 428-196, which includes a 332-147 mark in MIAC play and eight conference championships. In 2024-25, CSB finished 17-10 overall with an 11-7 in the MIAC (T-4th). He has helped direct the Bennies to the MIAC Tournament semifinals three straight years and to at least the MIAC quarterfinals four straight years.
 
His experience can be traced back to St. Cloud Technical High School, where he played and then coached in the boys’ program for 24 years. He also coached one year at St. Cloud Apollo, making this his 50th year coaching. Howe-Veenstra was born and raised in St. Cloud, graduating from St. Cloud Technical High School. After graduating from Tech, Howe-Veenstra enrolled at St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1979.
 
Howe-Veenstra retired in June of 2014 after 35 years as a special education teacher with the St. Cloud School District. In his final 12 years of teaching in the district, Steve led Community Options 2 Program, an innovative transition program for 18-21 year old students, which was based on St. Cloud State University’s campus.
 
He and his wife, Carol Howe-Veenstra, the former CSB Director of Athletics, have been married for 45+ years. Their son, Ryan, is a 2009 graduate of Saint John’s University University.Â
