Denny Johnson returns for his 29th season with the Saint Benedict softball team, but his third as assistant coach.

In 26 seasons as the Blazers’ head coach, Johnson won 522 career games, earning his 500th victory on Apr. 28, 2011 against Carleton. In MIAC play he won 352 games, while posting a .638 conference winning percentage.

During his tenure he led the Blazers to a pair of MIAC Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. The 1993 season was a memorable one, as he led the Blazers to a record 31 wins, going 19-1 in the MIAC to earn the programs first conference title.

Johnson posted a winning record in 21 seasons, and at the end of last season, he closed his head coaching career 20th all-time in NCAA Division III softball coaching victories.

He also serves as the assistant coach for the Blazer basketball team, a position he has held for the past 29 years. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Johnson’s also teaches in the exercise science department and oversees equipment needs for all CSB athletic programs.

A St. Cloud native, he graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1968 and St. Cloud State University in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. Johnson resides in St. Cloud with his wife Robin, and they have two daughters, each CSB graduates.

Additional Coaching Experience:
1983-1986: Head girls' basketball coach at St. Cloud Cathedral High School
Head coach of women's Class A softball team, winning two Minnesota State Championships and a fourth-place finish in the national tournament.

College Education:
2002: Master's degree in education through St. Mary's College
1976: Bachelor of science degree in English from SCSU

Athletic Career:
Played basketball for three years at St. Cloud State University 
Competed in football, basketball, and baseball at St. Cloud Tech High School.

Family:
Married to Robin Johnson. She is employed by St. Cloud Hospital. They have two daughters.
