EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Facing its second top-five team in a week span, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-19) at No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night, Sept. 18. With the loss, CSB slips to 6-5 on the season, while UWEC improves to 7-1.Â

Senior Kali Jones (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) led the offense with 13 kills on a strong .306 attack percentage. Senior Kate Stadum (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) and sophomore
Sydney Elliott (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) each chipped in five. Sophomore
Ginny Schuler (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) topped the team with 12 assists, closely followed by 11 from junior
Izzy Torve (Loretto, Minn./Orono). Â

Defensively, Schuler notched a team-best 10 digs, her second double-double of the season. Jones was second with five digs, followed four from senior
Libby Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) and sophomore
Brooke Siegle (Norwood Young America, Minn./Waconia). Elliott led the team with two blocks.Â

As a unit, Saint Ben's secured a 3-2 edge in blocks, but the Blugolds took the advantage in kills (42-28), assists (39-25), digs (48-34) and aces (10-1). CSB's offense was held to a .179 showing, while UW-Eau Claire finished the night hitting .379.Â

Saint Benedict returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, as the Bennies begin Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play by hosting Gustavus Adolphus College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Claire Lynch Hall. Â
