MIAC PREVIEW -- CSB Track and Field takes momentum into conference meet

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — After an outstanding outdoor season, the College of Saint Benedict track and field team will compete at the MIAC Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday (May 8-9) in Northfield, Minn.

The MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships officially began last week with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon competitions at Carleton College. This weekend's competition starts Friday with field events at 2 p.m. and running events at 2:30 p.m. Saturday's schedule begins at noon, with the women's and men's 4x400-meter relays concluding the meet at 5:10 p.m.

Tickets

Daily tickets are required to attend the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. All tickets will be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. Tickets are available for purchase on the MIAC's HomeTown Ticketing site.
 
Single-day adult tickets will be $13, and student tickets are $4. (Note: additional HomeTown Ticketing convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout, with estimated totals being $13.70 for adult / $4.43 for student per single-day ticket.) Children ages five and under do not require a ticket. Those eligible for student tickets include individuals currently enrolled in college, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Student ID is required where applicable.
 
Spectators traveling to Northfield are encouraged to review the campus parking map. Primary parking will be in the Lower Lincoln lot, with overflow parking in the grass at the bottom of Old Main Hill. Concessions will be available for purchase near Porter Hall on the west end of the track.

Looking Ahead

Senior Jaylyn Ahlberg (Shoreview, Minn.) enters the meet as the two-time defending MIAC outdoor pole vault champion. Ahlberg cleared 3.71 meters (12-02) at the 2024 MIAC Outdoor Championships and followed with a winning mark of 3.58 (11-09) meters last spring. She has also captured three MIAC indoor titles, becoming the first athlete in program history to win three consecutive indoor pole vault championships. Ahlberg is tied with London Stelten (2014-17) for the school record with five MIAC pole vault titles overall. In her last competition, Ahlberg had a vault of 3.65m - 11-11.75, her best in over two years. She has an indoor best of 3.76m - 12-04  (MIAC, 2024) and outdoor best of 3.71m - 12-02 (MIAC outdoor, 2024).

Junior Sabriya Farquharson (Nassau, Bahamas / Saint Augustine's College) claimed the triple jump title at the 2025 MIAC Outdoor Championships with a leap of 11.76 meters. She also earned All-MIAC honors indoors in both the long jump and triple jump in 2026. She has six All-MIAC honors, including three titles. She won the indoor triple jump in 2025 (11.40m - 37-05) and in 2024 captured the long jump at 5.61m - 18-05.

Junior Lauren Berg (Bemidji, Minn.), who has 14 All-MIAC and honorable mention honors, returns to the outdoor championship after setting a school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 1:02.18 in 2025. In that race, she broke Megan Sundstrom's previous school record of 1:02.42 set in 2017. She has clocked 1:02.62 for her best time this year.

Mary Kenney (St. Paul, Minn.) also returns after earning All-MIAC honors with a third-place finish at last year's outdoor championships. At that meet, she had a career-best of 11:17.98, a mark that ranks third in program history. She has a season best of 11:20.41.

Breaking It Down: History

A year ago, the Bennies placed fifth with 102.5 points at the 2025 MIAC Outdoor Championships. Two years ago, Saint Benedict finished third with a school-record 136.33 points.

CSB recorded a program-best 13 All-MIAC performances and matched the program record with five individual titles in both 2022 and 2023. In 2024, the Bennies totaled 127.50 points, the third-highest mark in school history behind the 136.33 points in 2023 and 130 points in 2017.

Seven times in program history, Saint Benedict has scored 100 or more points at the outdoor conference championships.

MIAC championship plaques will be presented to the first-place women's and men's teams following Saturday's competition. In addition to team awards, the top three finishers in each event automatically earn All-MIAC honors, while fourth- through sixth-place finishers receive honorable mention recognition.

Individual awards, along with the complete list of All-MIAC and honorable mention selections, will be announced next week.
