CSB Tennis moves into fifth in MIAC with 6-1 win over Macalester

SARTELL, Minn. — Behind a dominant all-around effort, Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.), Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) each claimed victories in both singles and doubles to lead the College of Saint Benedict tennis team (6-7, 4-4 MIAC) to a 6-1 MIAC win over Macalester (9-8, 4-5 MIAC) Thursday at Sta-Fit.

The Bennies controlled the match from the outset, sweeping all three doubles contests to secure the opening point before winning five of six singles matches. With the victory, Saint Benedict moves into fifth place in the MIAC standings with two regular-season matches remaining—Saturday at Bethel in St. Paul and Sunday at home against Carleton on Senior Day.

In doubles play, Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) set the tone with a 6-2 win at No. 1 over Savannah Haugen and Darrian Streater. Marohl and Yahn followed with a 7-5 decision at No. 2 against Sedona Crosby and Isabella Tamburrino, while Collins teamed with Claire Erdal (Brainerd, Minn.) for a dominant 6-0 sweep of Berkely Fox and Greta Laurel at No. 3.

Saint Benedict carried that momentum into singles. Although Huber fell 6-2, 6-2 to Haugen at No. 1, the Bennies responded with five straight wins. Marohl picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tamburrino at No. 2, and Yahn battled to a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) tiebreak win over Streater at No. 3. Collins added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Laurel, while Labenski earned a 6-0, 6-3 decision against Crosby. Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) capped the day with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Fox at No. 6.
