SARTELL, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict tennis team fell to Gustavus Adolphus, 7-0, on Saturday at Sta-Fit, as the Gusties remained unbeaten in MIAC play.
Gustavus (16-5, 4-0 MIAC) swept all six singles matches and secured the doubles point to extend its conference winning streak to four. The loss dropped the Bennies to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.
In singles action,
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) fell 6-3, 6-1 to Molly Austin at No. 1, while
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Lanie Davis at No. 2. The most competitive match came at No. 3, where
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) forced a tiebreaker before dropping a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) decision to Pavla Yakimova.
At No. 4,
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) was topped 6-1, 6-0 by Rika Cross, while
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) fell 6-3, 6-1 to Madison Packer at No. 5.
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Jemima Vitou at No. 6.
Gustavus also controlled doubles play, sweeping all three matches to claim the opening point. At No. 1, Austin and Davis posted a 6-4 win over Huber and Labenski. Yakimova and Vitou followed with a 6-4 victory against Marohl and Yahn at No. 2, and Packer and Cross completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Collins and
Claire Erdal (Brainerd, Minn.) at No. 3.
The Bennies will look to rebound quickly as they return to MIAC action Sunday, March 29, hosting Concordia College Moorhead at 11 a.m
