ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (2-4) closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a 7-0 setback to Franklin & Marshall (3-5) on Friday.
Franklin & Marshall took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. At No. 1 doubles,
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) fell, 6-0, to Natalie Untermeyer and Sophia Rhazali. The No. 2 pair of
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) dropped a 6-3 decision to Rebecca Bellick and Sahara Ahmad, while
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) and
Claire Erdal (Brainerd, Minn.) were defeated 6-4 by Amelia Squires and Lorena Saavedra at No. 3.
In singles play, Franklin & Marshall won all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Untermeyer posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Huber. Ahmad defeated Marohl 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, and Bellick earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Yahn at No. 3. Collins was topped, 6-4, 6-3, by Kakie Colclough at No. 4, while Labenski fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Rhazali at No. 5. At No. 6,
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Saavedra.
Saint Benedict returns to action at home on March 28 against Gustavus Adolphus at 4 p.m., before hosting Concordia at 11 a.m. on March 29 at Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn.
