Tautges, Ruhberg lead CSB Softball to a sweep of George Fox, 11-3 and 6-3

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Powered by a standout performance from senior Olivia Tautges (Brainerd, Minn.) and a strong showing at the plate from Bryn Ruhberg (Lino Lakes, Minn.), the College of Saint Benedict softball team pushed its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of George Fox on Tuesday at the Curtis and Margaret Morse Athletic Fields.

The Bennies (8-4) took game one in commanding fashion, 11-3 in six innings, before grinding out a 6-3 victory in eight innings in the nightcap against the Bruins (4-6).

Tautges paced the offense across both games, launching two home runs while reaching base consistently. She finished the day with five runs scored, five walks and two RBI, and in the process moved into second place on the program's all-time home run list with 25, surpassing Jordyn Swoboda. Through 12 games this season, Tautges is hitting an impressive .600 with six home runs and 15 RBI.

Ruhberg also delivered in key moments, tallying multiple hits and driving in six runs on the day, including a home run to push her season total to 14 RBI. Sophomore Lily Treml (Shakopee, Minn.) added a strong performance as well, going 4-for-8 with three RBI, including the go-ahead hit in game two. She is now batting .385 with 11 RBI this season.

Game 1 – Saint Benedict 11, George Fox 3 (6 innings)

In the opener, Saint Benedict broke things open late. After Tautges gave the Bennies an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run, George Fox briefly moved ahead before CSB responded with a six-run fifth inning. The Bennies added four more runs in the sixth, highlighted by Ruhberg's three-run homer, to secure the run-rule victory.

Treml led the way in game one with three hits and two RBI, while Tautges scored three times and reached base multiple times. Ruhberg added four RBI, and senior Olivia Van Hout (Mahtomedi, Minn.) contributed with a hit, two runs scored and a stolen base, increasing her career total to 58.

In the circle, Ellie Peterson (St. Anthony Village, Minn.) earned her third win of the season, tossing five innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits. It was the 43rd career win for Peterson, who struck out two and walked two. First-year Kaitlyn Pink (Delano, Minn.) closed out the game with a scoreless inning.

Game 2 – Saint Benedict 6, George Fox 3 (8 innings)

Game two proved to be much tighter as the Bennies edged George Fox, 6-3, in eight innings. Tautges again provided an early spark with a two-run home run in the third inning to give CSB the lead. The Bennies added another run in the fourth before George Fox rallied, tying the game with a two-run homer in the seventh to force extra innings.

In the eighth frame, Treml delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to put Saint Benedict back in front. Ruhberg followed with another timely hit, driving in two more runs to give the Bennies breathing room and secure the 6-3 win. Olivia Wallace (Maple Grove, Minn.) started in the circle for CSB, working four innings while allowing one run and striking out four without issuing a walk. Pink earned the win in relief, improving to 2-1 after allowing two runs over four innings with three strikeouts.

Saint Benedict will continue its Oregon trip on March 18 with a nonconference doubleheader against Lewis & Clark in Portland, scheduled to begin at 4/6 p.m. (CST).
