ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- In their ideal world,
Kira Young (Hudson, Wis.) and
Megan Driste (Sartell, Minn.) would like to have extended their final season at least another week.
But if that wasn't possible, Saturday afternoon's 79-57 victory over Augsburg was still a nice note to end on.
The College of Saint Benedict seniors finished with 10 and seven points, respectively, as the Bennies brought the 2025-26 season to a close on Senior Day at Claire Lynch Hall.
Sophomore
Lauren Arnold (Chanhassen, Minn.) led the way with 16 points. Classmate
Drew Buslee (Eagan, Minn.) and first-year
Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.) added 14 while Theisen finished with a team-best 12 rebounds to record her first career double-double. Both the points and rebounds totals were career-best totals for Theisen.
With the win, CSB finished its season 11-7 in MIAC play and 16-9 overall. The Bennies - who won four of their final five games - finished tied for sixth place in the MIAC standings, but dropped the tiebreaker to St. Scholastica, which earned the sixth and final spot in next week's conference playoffs.
"It was good to go out there and just have fun today," said Driste, who added six rebounds. "We said before the game that we had nothing to lose so we might as well go out and have one last great time together."
Young, Driste and fellow senior
Megan Morgan, who missed the season's final 10 games after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in a 70-57 win at Carleton on Jan. 17, were honored in a ceremony following the game.
Morgan joined Driste and Young as part of the CSB starting five and was on the court for the opening tip-off before an immediate timeout was called.
"That was a really special moment for all of us," said Young, who added eight rebounds. "Especially because her season didn't end the way any of us wanted it to. It was nice to be able to have one last memory with the three of us together."
The Bennies took control of the game early, hitting six first-half 3-pointers en route to building a 36-25 halftime lead. Arnold led the way with 10 points. Driste and Buslee each added seven. Theisen had eight first-half rebounds.
"With the younger players we have on this team, I know the program is in really good hands," Young said. "Our younger players are really vocal leaders. They know how to step up. I'm excited to see what they're going to go on to do in the future."
CSB continued to roll in the second half, finishing the game 27-for-57 (47.4 percent) from the field, which including 8-of-20 from three-point range. CSB, which ranks fourth in DIII in free throw shooting, hit 17-of-25 for 70.8 percent (.771 for the season). The Auggies (2-16, 5-20 MIAC) shot just 16-for-58 (27.6 percent).
Buslee finished with seven rebounds and four steals.
"I'm thrilled with a 16-9 finish, I'm thrilled with winning four of our last five and I'm thrilled with the amount of player development we saw this season," Bennies head coach
Mike Durbin said. "Those are the things I'm going to remember about this year."
"The friendships are what's going to stand out most to me," Driste added. "I knew I always had people I could lean on. The bonds we formed are going to last a long time."
