ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - A rainy day saw the College of Saint Benedict soccer team shut out Macalester College, 2-nil, in a crucial Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest Saturday, Oct. 3. With the win, CSB improves to 8-1-1 on the season, 3-1-1 in conference play, while Macalester dips to 5-5 (3-2 MIAC).Â
Â
The win marks the first over the Scots since 2022, and the Bennies' first shutout of MAC since a 1-nil victory in 2021. Earning the eighth win of the season, CSB secures the most wins in a season since the 2023 squad finished with nine.Â

Â
Logging all 90 minutes in goal, senior
Rhianna Anya (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson Sr.) notched the shutout behind four saves. It's Anya's first shutout of the season and the third of her career.Â
Â
Saint Benedict finished the advantage in shots (12-5), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (6-5), while each team tallied four saves.Â
Â
The Bennies needed just 14 minutes to crack the scoreboard. Senior
Avery Soli (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) sent a pass from the center line all the way to a crashing Gower on the right side of the net. Gower ripped off a shot, but the Scots goalkeeper could not control the ball. DeRosier took the opportunity on the rebound, booting it into the back of the net to give the Bennies a 1-nil lead. Â
Â
Warren made it a two-goal game with a boot in the 38th minute. Chase set up the score with a boot from outside of the penalty box towards the net, where Cammerrer met the ball for a header. Cammerrer's pass found the foot of Warren, who wasted no time to bury her shot into the back of the net, making it 2-nil. Â
Â
The two goals gave the home team a cushion entering halftime.Â
Â
A defensive battle saw Macalester with the first scoring opportunity in the second half, but Anya came up with a save in the 57th minute to maintain the shutout. The senior went on to make all four of her stops in the second half, securing the shutout win for the Bennies.Â
Â
Saint Benedict returns to action Saturday, Oct. 10, heading to Augsburg University for a 1 p.m. contest.Â
