ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Goals by junior
Shae Stinnett and sophomore
Camryn Hargreaves plus a strong defensive effort carried the College of Saint Benedict hockey team to a 2-1 MIAC victory over St. Catherine on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Ritsche Arena.
Stinnett (North Oaks, Minn.) netted the game-winning goal with 1:46 remaining in regulation, lifting the Bennies to their fifth consecutive win and improving CSB to 10-2-3 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play. With 18 MIAC points, St. Ben's moved into second place in the standings, just two points out of first place. St. Catherine fell to 8-7-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the MIAC.
Stinnett's decisive goal came off an assist from first-year forward Bailey Hesper (South Saint Paul, Minn.), marking Hesper's fourth assist of the season. The tally was Stinnett's fourth goal of the year and the 12th of her career.
St. Catherine struck first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 3:30 mark of the opening period when Ana Myers scored her 13th goal of the season on an unassisted, even-strength tally. The Bennies responded midway through the second period, as sophomore
Camryn Hargreaves (Minnetrista, Minn.) tied the game at 1-1 with her fourth goal of the season and 11th of her career.
First-year
Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.) assisted on the goal by Hargreaves for her team-leading ninth assist, while senior
Presley Kraemer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added her fifth assist of the season. Kraemer extended her point streak to six games.
CSB's defense once again proved decisive, anchored by first-year goaltender
Lexi Badali (St. John, Ind.), who stopped 11 shots and allowed just one goal to improve to 6-1-2 on the season. Badali has surrendered only four goals over the last 249:58 of ice time, while the Bennies' defense has allowed just three goals over the past five games.
Saint Benedict controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting St. Catherine, 23-12. Stinnett,
Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and
Jorja Jusczak (Moose Lake, Minn.) each recorded four shots on goal. CSB also held the edge in the face-off circle, winning 56.6 percent of draws. Senior
Chloe Lewis (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) went 10-for-18, while Siska won 9-of-15.
The Bennies return to MIAC action with a two-game road series at Saint Mary's on Jan. 23–24 in Winona, Minn.
