CSB Soccer drops closely contested decision to UW-Oshkosh, 2-1

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Despite another strong defensive performance and a first-half goal from senior Addison Stephani, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team came up just short in a 2-1 road loss to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Sunday, Sept. 14.

With the result, the Bennies wrapped up their nonconference weekend slate against WIAC opponents with a 1-1 record and now sit at 1-5-0 overall. They return home this week to open MIAC play against St. Scholastica on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at the CSB Soccer Field.

UW-Oshkosh struck first midway through the opening half when Addyson Knoebel finished off a setup from Jaden LeRoy. The Bennies responded just before the break, as Stephani delivered the equalizer in the 43rd minute with an unassisted goal — her first of the season and fifth of her career.

The match remained even until the 59th minute, when Oshkosh reclaimed the lead on a goal by Gabby Born, assisted by Shannon Walsh. From there, CSB continued to press but couldn't find the tying goal despite several strong chances.

Statistically, the match was closely contested. UW-Oshkosh held a narrow 15-13 edge in total shots, with both teams registering eight shots on goal. CSB earned more opportunities from set pieces, finishing with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In net, first-year Anna Mollenhauer made two saves in the opening half for CSB, while junior Rhianna Anya played the second half, allowing one goal and collecting four saves.

Stephani led the Bennies offensively with four shots on goal, while sophomore Molly Miller added two shots on target. First-year Elly Prairie also contributed two shots, including one on frame.
