SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (4-5, 1-2 MIAC) secured a 6-3 victory over Macalester (3-9, 1-3 MIAC) in MIAC play on Sunday, March 30, at Sta-Fit, earning their first home win of the season.
With the win, CSB improves to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in MIAC play, while Macalester falls to 3-9 and 1-3 in the conference.
Doubles Action
The Bennies won two out of three doubles matches. At No. 2,
Ava Stritesky and
Allyson Yahn posted an 8-3 win over Greta Laurel and Megan Twomey, improving to 1-1 on the season. At No. 3 doubles,
Lila Collins and
Ella Marohl teamed up for an 8-1 win over Sedoba Crosby and Berkeley Cox, also moving to 1-1 on the year. In the No. 1 doubles match,
Sophia Jonas and
Kate Perbix dropped an 8-5 decision to Elizabeth Trevathan and Savannah Haugen.
Singles Action
Saint Benedict dominated singles, winning four of the six matches. At No. 3, Yahn won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, over Twomey, improving to 3-5 this season.
Ryanna Steinhaus had a strong 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Crosby, bringing her record to 3-6.
Lila Collins cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 over Cox, pushing her record to 5-3. At No. 6,
Kate Perbix fought through a three-set match, winning, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5), over Greta Laurel, improving to 5-4.
At No. 1 singles, Jonas battled in a closely contested match but fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to Trevathan. In the No. 2 match, Marohl lost, 6-1, 6-2, to Haugen.
Looking Ahead
The Bennies will next head out on a three-match road trip, starting with a match against St. Catherine at 6 p.m. on April 4 in Minneapolis, Minn. CSB will also face Concordia-Moorhead on April 6 and Hamline University on April 9.
