ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
Megan Erickson and
Cat Smetana had four hits while
Sammy Muetzel provided four RBI as the College of Saint Benedict softball team (1-1) split a doubleheader with UW-Stout (2-2) on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the SCSU Husky Dome.
The Bennies recorded 14 hits and had a win from
Ellie Peterson (1-0) in the circle in an 8-3 victory in game one. In game two, CSB collected eight more hits but dropped a 5-4 decision.
St. Ben's will be back at the Husky Dome on Sunday when they face UW-Eau Claire with a doubleheader at 1/3 p.m.
CSB 8 UW-Stout 3
In game one, the Bennies exploded for six runs in the first inning, and with 14 hits, rolled to an 8-3 victory.
Four CSB players had two hits apiece, including third team All-American and MIAC Player of the Year
Olivia Tautges, who had a pair of hits, including a double, with a run scored and RBI. Junior
Cat Smetana had two hits, and a run scored. In addition, senior
Megan Erickson had two hits, run scored and an RBI while junior
Sammy Muetzel had two hits in three at bats with a run scored and two RBI.
Junior
Ellie Peterson, who was the MIAC Pitcher of the Year in 2024, recorded a complete game win as she allowed five hits and three runs with two strikeouts in seven innings in the circle. Peterson collected her 25
th career win and 21
st career complete game in the victory.
UW-Stout 5 CSB 4
In game two, UW-Stout led, 2-0 and 4-1, before CSB rallied to within, 4-3, and after the Blue Devils built a 5-3 lead, drew to within one and put the tying run on base in the seventh inning.
In game two, CSB had two hits, and a run scored from Smetana and two hits, runs scored and an RBI from Erickson.
Cadence Koste added two hits while Muetzel had a pair of RBIS.
Lily Treml had a triple and scored in the seventh inning when CSB cut the lead to 5-4.
Junior
Olivia Wallace (0-1) suffered the loss in the circle as she allowed five hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work. First-year
Anna Corbid finished for CSB as she allowed one run in one inning.
