ROCHESTER, Minn. — Junior Haley Zelen (Shakopee, Minn.) powered the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team on the opening day of the Rochester Invite, delivering a record-setting performance that included two school marks, two NCAA Division III B cuts, and victories in both the 50 free and 100 fly.

Zelen's standout day began in the 50 free, where her prelim time of 23.47 bettered a 12-year-old CSB record. She lowered it again in the evening session, winning in 23.07 to eclipse the 2013 program standard of 23.71 set by Steph Bierman. In the 100 fly, Zelen clocked 54.72, breaking her own school record of 56.33 from earlier this season.

She also contributed to a record relay performance, teaming with Mary Morris (St. Cloud, Minn.), Megan Bartels (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Anna Schottler (Chanhassen, Minn.) to take fourth in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:46.69 erased the 2024 program record of 1:47.08.

In the team standings, the Bennies stand eighth after day one with 219 points.

In the 500 free, senior Morgan Stout (Des Moines, Iowa) posted a lifetime best of 5:18.04, dropping 17 seconds from her previous mark to finish 11th in the consolation final. First-year Maddie Brynda (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added a career best of her own, swimming 5:29.87 for 22nd.

Morris placed 13th in the 200 IM after a personal-best 2:14.15 in prelims. First-year Bella Kern (Delano, Minn.) recorded a PR of 2:18.53 to finish 24th in the event, followed by first-year Lydia Jostock (Delano, Minn.) in 25th (2:19.72) and junior Jayda Alholm (Little Falls, Minn.) in 27th (2:21.40; 2:20.29 prelims).

Schottler added another near-milestone swim for CSB, placing 17th in the 50 free with a career-best 24.57—just outside the program's top-10 list. In the 100 fly, three Bennies finished inside the top 30: first-year Josey Larson (Hastings, Minn.) posted a career-best 1:01.15 for 25th, first-year Maddie Tillman (St. Michael, Minn.) swam a personal-best 1:02.10 for 28th, and first-year Isabella Anderson (Austin, Texas) notched a PR of 1:03.01 in prelims before taking 30th in finals (1:03.13).

CSB also earned a 13th-place finish in the 800 free relay behind the team of Alholm, sophomore Maddie Stutelberg (St. Bonifacius, Minn.), senior Lauren Sitzman (Omaha, Neb.) and Stout, who combined for a time of 8:10.53.

The Rochester Invite continues Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. Events include the 400 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 1-meter diving.
