CSB Hockey ties Bethel, 1-1 in OT - wins shootout 1-0 for extra conference point

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with Bethel on Friday night, then claimed the extra point with a 1-0 shootout win in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at the Bethel University Arena - National Sports Center.

The Bennies, now 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the MIAC, sit third in the league standings with 11 points. The two teams meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. at Ritsche Arena.

Junior forward Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) opened the scoring late in the first period, converting a power-play opportunity at 16:14 off an assist from Shae Stinnett, who had her fourth assist of the season and 14th of her career. It marked Tuccitto's third goal of the season and the seventh of her career.

After a scoreless second period, Bethel pulled even at 15:11 of the third on an unassisted tally by Kallie Tibbetts. Overtime ended without a winner, but senior Presley Kraemer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), the reigning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, delivered in the shootout to secure the 1-0 edge.

First-year goaltender Lexi Badali (St. John, Ind.) continued her strong debut season, turning aside 41 shots in 64:59 of action and allowing only the third-period equalizer. She lowered her goals-against average to 1.66 and improved her save percentage to .943 with 165 stops on the year.

Bethel outshot CSB, 42-30, though the Bennies held a 4-1 advantage in overtime. Saint Benedict finished 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off all three Bethel chances. CSB won 48.4 percent of its faceoffs, led by Tuccitto's 16 wins in 26 draws.
