CSB Basketball falls to (RV) Whitman College at Colorado College Fall Classic

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Despite double-digit scoring efforts from sophomore Drew Buslee, senior Kira Young and senior Megan Morgan, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team (6-2) fell, 66–57, to (RV) Whitman College (4-2) on Saturday in its second game of the Colorado College Fall Classic.

The loss dropped St. Benedict to 6–2 on the season as they prepare to return home to face Concordia-Moorhead in MIAC play on December 6 at Claire Lynch Hall.

Buslee (Eagan, Minn.) paced CSB with 15 points, shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. She also contributed six steals and three assists. Young (Hudson, Wis.) added 14 points and four rebounds, highlighted by a career-best showing at the free-throw line where she went 12-of-14. Senior guard Megan Morgan (Winona, Minn.) finished with 11 points, two assists and a steal.

First-year forward Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.) posted her second double-digit rebounding performance of the season, pulling down 10 boards to go with a career-high eight points.

Saint Benedict trailed, 16–13, after the opening quarter and, 29–24, at halftime, but fought back to tie the game at 39 late in the third quarter. Whitman College answered with a 5–0 run to close the stanza up, 44–39, and extended its lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring CSB, 22–18, over the final 10 minutes.

Shooting struggles proved costly for the Bennies, who finished just 13-of-50 from the field (26 percent) and 4-of-21 from three-point range (19 percent). CSB's free-throw shooting, however, kept them in contention as they went 27-of-32 for 84 percent. The Blue countered with 24 made field goals to CSB's 13 and shot 46.2 percent overall.

Turnovers also hurt Saint Benedict, which committed 18 giveaways that Whitman College converted into 18 points. The Blues held a 32–18 advantage in points in the paint, while CSB won the rebounding battle 36–30, including an 11–2 edge on the offensive glass.
