ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – It was a Senior Night to remember at Claire Lynch Hall as the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team stormed back from a two-set deficit to defeat Concordia-Moorhead, 3-2, on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Bennies' upper-class leadership and youthful energy combined for a thrilling comeback victory, capped by a dominant final stretch.
With the victory, Saint Ben's improved to 16-6 overall and 7-2 in MIAC play, holding third place in the conference standings. The Bennies now turn their focus to their final two regular season matches, including All Cancer Awareness Night against Bethel on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
The 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-11 win showcased the team's resilience. After dropping the first two sets, the Bennies regrouped, winning the next three behind balanced offense, strong blocking, and clutch serving. In total, CSB finished with 57 kills, 12 service aces, and 11 total blocks, hitting .154 as a team across the five sets, which featured 19 ties and 10 lead changes.
First-year outside hitter
Keira McManus led the way with a career-high 18 kills on a .318 hitting percentage, including seven in the fourth set alone.
Senior middle blocker
Mackenzie Knofczynski tied a career best with nine blocks while adding eight kills on .250 hitting. Fellow senior
Chaeli Haupert notched 23 digs—surpassing the 1,200-career dig milestone (1,222)—and added a service ace. Senior
McKenna Moehrle chipped in seven kills and a block while hitting .208.
Beyond the senior class,
Kali Jones tallied 11 kills and 19 digs for her 34th career double-double, bringing her career kill total to 791. Sophomore setter
Izzy Torve contributed 27 assists, seven digs, and two aces, while
Ginny Schuler posted a career-high five service aces, 23 assists, and 11 digs for her second career double-double.
Brooke Andries added nine kills, and
Ingrid Noha recorded 10 digs, her fourth straight match in double figures.
CSB's comeback began in the third set, where they edged the Cobbers, 25-23, with a 14-10 kill advantage. The Bennies then dominated the fourth frame 25-14, converting 80 percent of their sideouts. In the decisive fifth set, CSB broke a 6-6 tie with a 6-1 run to take control and sealed the victory with a match-ending block by Jones and McManus.
