CSB Soccer drops 3-0 decision to No. 23 Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team battled No. 23 Carleton before falling, 3-0, in a MIAC road decision Tuesday (Oct. 14).

With the loss, the Bennies fall to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in MIAC play, currently sitting fifth in the conference standings. Carleton, which moved up today in the national DIII rankings from No. 24 to No. 23, improved to 10-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the MIAC, tied for first place.

The opening half was a defensive stand for CSB. Despite being outshot, 9-4, and facing a 7-0 deficit in corner kicks, the Bennies held the nationally ranked Knights scoreless through 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Claire McGrath came up with key saves as Carleton pressed early with a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

In the second half, the Knights broke through in the second half with three goals, utilizing a 15-3 shots edge to pick up the win. Carleton ended the deadlock in the 56th minute when Hadley Twichell slotted home the opening goal. Just over two minutes later, Louisa Symkowick doubled the lead, converting a pass from Lola Feurer. Carleton capped the scoring in the 87th minute with an unassisted goal from Isabella Gill.

In total, Carleton held the edge on the stat sheet with a 25-7 advantage in shots, including 10-3 in shots on goal.  McGrath recorded seven saves in goal for Saint Benedict. Offensively, Addison Stephani led the way with four shots, two of them on target. Summer Seamans added two more shots, including one on goal.

The Bennies now return home, where they'll look to bounce back against St. Catherine on Saturday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the CSB Turf Field.
