Sami Hackley and first-year
Lizzie Schrubbe led a record-breaking performance as the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (5-3, 2-0 MLC) recorded a 23-3 road victory over Augsburg (2-10, 0-3 MLC) in Midwest Lacrosse Conference action on Friday night (April 12).
In a fourth straight win, Saint Benedict improved to 5-3 overall with a 2-0 record in the MLC. In the victory, the Bennies set a program mark for goals in a game with 23. In the four-game winning streak, CSB has outscored opponents 77-to-21.
Leading the record-breaking offensive performance was Hackley, who broke her own school record for goals in a game with nine. She had set a record with seven goals in an 18-13 loss to UW-Lacrosse on March 13. Now, almost a month later, she had the record with her 17
th career multi-goal game as she pushed her season total to a team-high 31 and career mark to 68. First-year
Lizzie Schrubbe had the record for points in a game with 10 as she bettered her program-game mark of nine against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Schrubbe had a career-high five goals to go with five assists. She had her sixth multi-goal game and now has four or more assists in a game five times in eight games. As a result, she leads CSB with 47 points (20G, 27A).

Patrick Crandall noted his team's chemistry in earning the fifth win of the season.
"It was a really good team win tonight. The team played at a high level for the entire game, and we are starting to flow together as a team," said Crandall. "
Sami Hackley had another great contest showing why she is so dangerous around the net as she broke her own goal record.
Lizzie Schrubbe added another solid performance and is really playing the x position well. When we need her to dish the ball she does and when we need her to score, she can do that equally as well," he said.
"Overall, it was a great team win and we are really trying to bring everything together for the last few weeks of the regular season," added Crandall.
CSB also had multi-goal efforts from junior
Emma Osland, who had two goals and an assist while sophomore
Grace Fitzgibbons had two goals and four assists for six goals while first-year
Tess Cavanaugh registered her first multi-goal game with two scores. CSB also had goals from
Emma Nelson,
Emma Halweg, and
Ella Steinke.
In addition, reigning MLC Defensive Player of the Week
Chloe Lewis was dominating in goal, allowing just three goals. It is the third time this season that the sophomore goalie has allowed five goals or fewer. In moving to 5-2-0 this season, she had two saves in a season-best team defensive effort.
In rolling to the win, CSB had a dominating performance, building a 49-to-6 mark in shots, 27-to-12 edge in ground balls and forced 26 turnovers while committing just 16. CSB had an 8-0 edge in goals after one quarter and, with an 8-1 margin in the second quarter, CSB led 16-1 at halftime. In the third quarter, CSB outscored the Auggies, 6-0, before Augsburg had a 2-1 margin in the final quarter.
Game Summary
With a 22-0 shots edge and 9-3 margin in ground balls, Saint Benedict took an 8-0 lead after the opening quarter with three goals from Hackley and two each from Fitzgibbons and Schrubbe. A goal from Steinke (12:06) and two by Hackley (11:45, 11:29) within a :35 second span, helped the Bennies take a 3-0 lead. Off an assist by
Emma Halweg, Schrubbe (7:04) gave St. Ben's a 4-0 lead. Then Fitzgibbons (6:31) and Hackley (5:41), off an assist by Schrubbe, scored goals for a 6-0 advantage. Schrubbe (1:41) and Fitzgibbons (0:44) added scores for an 8-0 lead just before the break.
In the second quarter, CSB had a 7-1 edge as Hackley and Schrubbe accounted for six of the seven goals. With her fourth goal of the game (13:07), Hackley helped CSB take a 9-0 lead before Augsburg scored as the Bennies had a 23-to-2 shots edge to that point. Hackley (9:58) tallied her fifth goal of the game for a 10-1 lead. Then, 18 seconds later at 9:40, Schrubbe scored off an assist by Nelson. Schrubbe tallied her fourth goal (8:44) off an assist by Osland for a 12-1 lead. Hackley (7:28) scored her sixth goal of the game for a 13-1 lead. Then Schrubbe (4: O1) had her career-best fifth goal of the game for a 14-1 lead. Osland joined in (2:15) the scoring for a 15-1 lead. Then, Hackley tallied her seventh goal of the game and tied her own school record for a 16-1 lead.
Halweg (14:08) scored for a 17-1 lead just 52 seconds into the third quarter. Cavanaugh (11:15) pushed the lead to 18-1. Then, Schrubbe assisted on a goal by Nelson (10:17) as Saint Benedict led, 19-1. Hackley, off another assist from Schrubbe, broke the school record with a goal at 8:41 of the third quarter. CSB's lead moved to 21-1 after Cavanaugh (6:48) scored her second goal with an assist from Fitzgibbons. With a second goal from Osland (2:21), the Bennies built a 22-1 lead and had a 44-to-3 shots edge to that point.
In the final quarter, Hackley's ninth goal of the game (6:19), off an assist from
Breya Sawyer, gave CSB the school record 23
rd goal and she set the program's individual game mark.
