CSB Basketball will travel to face UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (1-1) will travel to UW-Eau Claire (0-3) for a nonconference matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., at Zorn Arena.

Saint Benedict split two games at its own CSB Tip-Off Tournament to open the season on Nov. 9-10.The Bennies recorded a 78-49 win over Minnesota-Morris as junior guard Megan Morgan scored 16 points and Sophia Jonas had 14. The Bennies hit 14 3s in the game which was the first of two games at CSB's Tip-off Tournament. In the second game, CSB took a 64-53 setback to UW-River Falls, despite 15 points from first-year wing Tatum Findley while Morgan had 13 points. Morgan was also named to the CSB Tip-off All-Tourney Team.

Following the nonconference game at UW-Eau Claire, St. Ben's will compete at the Gundersen Hotel and Suites Thanksgiving Classic. On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Bennies face Simpson College at 4 p.m., and then will play host school Wisconsin-La Crosse at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Mitchell Hall Gymnasium in La Crosse, Wis.

Series – UW-Eau Claire leads series
This will be the ninth meeting between UW-Eau Claire and St. Benedict with the Blugolds owning a 5-3 lead. CSB has lost two straight games to the Blugolds including a 48-40 decision at St. Joseph on Nov. 29, 2017. CSB's last win over the Blugolds was a 69-58 decision on Nov. 16, 2010. On the road, CSB is 1-2 with a 2-2 mark at home. In the first matchup on Jan. 13, 1989, UW-Eau Claire captured a 66-59 victory.

Inside Look at UW-Eau Claire 
Head coach Tonja Englund is coaching in her 25th season with UW-Eau-Claire with a 406-239 record. She has the fourth most wins in the history of the WIAC. So far this season, the Blugolds have take a 77-73 loss to Simpson College on Nov. 9, a 73-49 loss to No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus on Nov. 10 and a 56-54 setback to Central College on Nov. 16. As a team the Blugolds are averaging 58.7 points per game and hitting 35.2 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from three-point range and 45.5 percent at the foul line. In addition, they average 45.3 rebounds, 10.3 assists and 19.7 turnovers per game. Individually, Reanna Hutchinson is averaging 13.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while Kyla Overskei is supplying 12.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

Bennies Inside Info
A year ago, CSB was 15-11 with a 12-8 MIAC record, earning a berth in the MIAC playoff semifinals for a second straight year. The Bennies are led by veteran head coach Mike Durbin, who has a 750-285 overall record (.725) and has 746 wins at St. Ben's. He ranks 15th for coaching wins among all active coaches regardless of NCAA division and has the most victories by an active DIII coach.

CSB is led by Morgan, a junior guard who is averaging 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. First-year Tatum Findley is scoring 12.0 points with 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. The Bennies also receive 9.0 points per game from both senior Sophia Jonas, who is providing 5.0 rebounds per game, and first-year Sofia Baldessari, who is also grabbing a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game.

Jonas now has 195 career three-pointers, which ranks first in school history. Last season, Jonas recorded 65 three-point shots which ranked second in the MIAC with her 2.7 three-point field goals per game leading the conference. She has 845 career points and is on track to become CSB's 22nd 1,000-point scorer. Jonas owns the MIAC and school record for made threes in a season with 84 and in conference play with 66.

Fourteen players have recorded points for CSB, which is averaging 65.50 points per game with 31.0 rebounds. The Bennies have hit 38 percent from the field and 33.3 percent on three-pointers. CSB also has made 58.3 percent at the foul line and average 11.0 assists per game.
