St. Cloud, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (0-2-1) which had goals from
Presley Kraemer and
Shae Stinnett, earned a 2-2 tie against UW-Superior (3-2-1) in their home opener at Ritsche Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 12. After a scoreless overtime, UW-Superior won the shootout 2-0, securing the extra point.
The Bennies outshot the Yellowjackets 57-45 but trailed 27-26 in shots on goal. UW-Superior also led in blocked shots (17-13), while CSB won 31 of 44 faceoffs.
St. Benedict opened the scoring at 19:06 of the first period, with sophomore
Shae Stinnett netting her first goal of the season and third of her career. On the score, Stinnett was assisted by
Chloe Lewis and
Sasha Kleckner. UW-Superior responded in the second period, with Cora Coz tying the game at 4:37. CSB regained the lead at 17:45 when junior
Presley Kraemer scored her first goal of the season, unassisted. For Kraemer, it was her 10th career goal . However, the Yellowjackets tied it again in the final seconds of the period when Brynn MacLean scored off an assist from Jenna Hoops.
Neither team scored in the third period or overtime, and after a scoreless shootout, UW-Superior secured the win. Junior goalie
Ellynor Haack recorded 25 saves in the tie.
The Bennies (0-2-1) will face St. Scholastica in MIAC play this weekend, with road and home matchups on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Duluth and Saturday at 6 p.m. back at Ritsche Arena.
