Young and Krautkremer lead CSB to 2-1 win at UWSP Sunday

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Goals by Lana Krautkremer and Ella Young plus another solid defensive performance led the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (1-1) to a 2-1 nonconference win at UW-Stevens Point (0-2) on Sunday (Sept. 3).

The Bennies ended their road trip to Wisconsin at 1-1 after dropping a closely contested 1-0 decision to No. 13 UW-Lacrosse on Friday.

CSB Head Coach Steven Kimble, who registered his 141st career win, was pleased with his team's performance this weekend and especially on Sunday when hot and humid conditions made play difficult.

"I'm thrilled about the whole group effort against Stevens Point," said Kimble, whose team has placed second in the MIAC in back-to-back seasons. "We are coming together as a team and making steps forward. I'm excited for this amazing group of Bennies. It's going to be a fun year," he said.

CSB scored its first goal of the season and against UWSP when senior forward Lana Krautkremer of Elko, Minn., converted a goal at the 34:00 mark of the opening half. Off an assist from sophomore Addison Stephani, Krautkremer converted a high center shot to the goal. It was her sixth career goal. Stephani tallied her fourth career assist.

At the 83:48-mark, senior defender Ella Young of Hudson, Wisc., scored an unassisted goal as CSB took a 2-0 lead. UWSP made it close by cutting the lead in half at the 85:17 mark on a goal from Gabby Dunn off an assist by Cass Klitzke.

After that CSB held off the Pointers with solid defensive work.

On the day, CSB dominated action on the offensive end with a 26-to-7 margin in shots and a 7-to-5 difference in shots on goals. CSB had a 6-to-1 advantage in corners while both teams were whistled for nine fouls.

In goal, CSB goalkeeper Annie Waters had four saves in facing the nine shots by UWSP.
