Rosko, Johanson and Smutka earn CSC Academic All-District honors

Trio of standouts represent first CSC Academic All-District honorees in school history

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Molly Johanson, Fiona Rosko and Lindsay Smutka of the College of Saint Benedict Swim and Dive Team have been named to the 2022‐23 Academic All‐District® Women's Swimming & Diving Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.

The CSC recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes women's swimming and diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America® ballot.

Johanson, Smutka and Rosko, which helped lead the CSB Swimming and Diving Team to a fifth-place finish at the MIAC Championships, are the first-ever honors from the CSB Swim and Dive Team named College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honorees.

Rosko registered the team-high for points for CSB at the MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships. During the competition, Rosko had an All-MIAC performance in the 200 butterfly, finished fourth in the 400 IM, 10th in the 200 IM and was part of the sixth-place 400-medley relay. Rosko, who recorded two lifetime bests in her final conference meet, registered or was part of three program top-10 marks, scored in four events for CSB at the MIAC Championships.  Rosko of Seaside, Calif., was third in the 200 butterfly with a clocking of 2:10.25 which bettered her all-time best and was the second-best performance in school history in the event.

In the 200 IM, Rosko placed 10th overall and second in the B final with her clocking of 2:13.57, which was a PR by 1:17 and the ninth best mark in school history in the event. In the 400 IM she was fourth with a season best 4:42.21. Aside from her individual performances, Rosko was a contributor on the 400-medley relay, which placed sixth with a clocking of 4:01.76. The relay of Rosko, senior Mads Slavik, junior Lindsay Smutka and Emi Wagner bettered their season best by 7.09 seconds with the sixth-best time all-time in CSB history. Rosko has earned three All-MIAC honors, including twice in the 400 IM (2022-23, 2021-22) as well as once in the 200 breaststroke (2021-22). She was named the Co-MVP for the 2020-21 CSB squad. 

 
Molly Johanson
Johanson, a senior biology major and a three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, earned All-MIAC honors in the 400 IM in 2022-23 with a season-best 4:40.18, which is just short of her PR of 4:39.26 in 2022 but would rank seventh all-time. In the 200IM, she had a career-best 2:11.48 for fifth place at the MIAC Championship which is a time that ranked fourth all-time at CSB.

She was also a member of the 800-free relay that clocked a season-best. She was joined by Laura Jennings, Hannah Tatge, and Lauren Sitzman.  Also, Johanson was 10th in the 1,650 free at 18:42.65.

 
Lindsay Smutka
Smutka, a two-time Academic All-MIAC honor, earned All-MIAC honors a year ago in the 100 backstroke. This year she has had numerous personal bests through the year and was part of four relays that scored points in the MIAC Championships while recording two top 10 finishes in individual events. In the 100 back in 2022-23, she clocked a career-best 57.64 to finish fourth with the second best-time at CSB. In the 200 backstroke, she won the "B" final (9th) in a 2:06.38 for the third all-time clocking in school history.

In addition, Smutka helped the 400 free relay finish fifth with a squad that included Mikayla Haskamp, Rachel Schlueter, and Emi Wagner. In the 200 free relay, she was part of a team that finished fourth in 1:38.48. The team included Wagner, Schlueter and Mads Slavik along with Smutka. In the 400-medley relay, the team of Slavik, Rusko, Smutka and Wagner finished sixth in 4:01.76.  In addition, she was part of a relay squad, which included Megan Bartels, Slavik, and Wagner, which was sixth at the meet and sixth-best all-time at CSB with a 1:49.48 clocking.

First‐, second and third‐team Academic All‐ America® honorees will be announced in late March.  The CSC Academic All‐District® teams include the student‐athletes listed on the following pages.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All‐America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022‐23 Divisions II and III Academic All‐ America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All‐America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
