CSB Soccer travels to Bethel Saturday before hosting UW-Stout on Sunday

ST JOSEPH, MINN.-- After going 4-2-2 over the previous eight games, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (5-5-2, 3-3-1 MIAC) will travel to face Bethel University (3-5-2, 1-5 MIAC) on Saturday (October 15) at 3:30 p.m., in a MIAC road test. Then, CSB will host UW-Stout (3-7, 0-3 WIAC) at the CSB Stadium Turf Field on Sunday (October 16) at 3:30.
 
CSB, which recorded a 2-0 MIAC in over Concordia (5-5-1, 3-3-0 MIAC) on Wednesday (Oct. 11) faces a Bethel team that has lost four straight in league play and sits 3-5-2 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC. CSB is sixth in the MIAC at 3-3-1 and sits 5-5-2 overall. The Bennies have earned 10 points in the standings and sits just one point behind St. Olaf (5-4-3, 3-2-2 MIAC) and Augsburg (8-3-2, 3-3-2 MIAC) with 11 points. As CSB goes to Bethel, they have a 2-5 road record. When CSB hosts UW-Stout, the Bennies will have a 3-0-2 home mark, which is 10-0-3 over the past two years.
 
Facing Region IX
The College of Saint Benedict has played four teams ranked in region IX by the United Soccer Coaches. The Bennies fell to UW- Eau Claire (6th in region), 3-2, and No. 10 UW-Lacrosse (1st in the region), 1-0. CSB lost to St. Catherine's (5th in region), 2-0, while also playing to a 0-0 draw against No. 24 Simpson (No. 2). The Bennies will play Carleton College (No. 4 in region) to finish the regular season on October 28.
 
Bethel Notes
Directed by fifth-year head coach Ben Linder, Bethel is averaging 1.60 goals and is allowing 1.60 goals per game. The Royals are led by Hannah Kvant, who has nine goals in 10 games played. Malia Beilby has recorded two goals in 10 games. Junior goalkeeper Kate Green has a 1-4-1 record with 31 saves and a 1.78 GAA.
 
UW-Stout Notes
UW Stout has a 2-6-2 record through the last 10 games as they face CSB on Sunday. Directed by 12th year head coach Ryan Raufus, Concordia is averaging 0.75 goals and allowing 1.08 goals per game. The Blue Devils are led by Lauren Chukel, who has three goals in 12 games played. Sami Moseng has recorded two goals in 11 games. First-Year goalkeeper Kristen Silenzi has a 2-7 record with 63 saves and a 1.19 GAA.
 
Series Notes vs Bethel
Against Bethel, CSB has won four straight matches, including a 4-1 decision on October 12, 2022, in St. Joseph, Minn. The Bennies have a 26-1-3 overall series record, which includes a 12-1-2 mark at home and 14-0-1 in road games. CSB also owns a 25-1-3 conference record in the series. The Bennies, which won, 9-0, in the first matchup on October 6, 1993, is 8-1-1 in past 10 games against the Royals.
 
Series Notes vs UW-Stout 
Against UW-Stout, CSB has won three of the last four matches, including a 1-0 decision on September 18, 2022, in Menomonie, Wisc. The Bennies have a 7-2-1 overall series record, which includes a 3-1 mark at home and 4-1-1 in road games. The Bennies, which won, 3-2, in the first matchup on August 31st, 2007, is 7-2-1 in past 10 games against the Blue Devils.
 
Notes on CSB
 In 2023, the Bennies have shown balance with goals from 11 players. Junior forward Alli Voss, who was All-MIAC and All-Region a year ago, leads CSB and ranks 12th in the MIAC with four goals on the season. Voss, who had goals in three straight matches earlier this year, has 19 career goals. Voss leads CSB in scoring with nine points (15th in the MIAC). She also has a team-high 30 shots. Addison Stephani has a goal and two assists. Senior Abby Willenbring, a third team U.S. Soccer Scholar All-American, All-MIAC and All-Region honoree in 2022, is second on the team in shots with 22. Willenbring has played 923 minutes on the pitch this season. Goalkeeper Madisen Carter has split time with Annie Waters.  Carter has one shutout and 13 saves in four games played this season. She totals a 0.813 save percentage and 0.88 goals against average. Waters has four shutouts and a 5-3-1 record with 26 saves in eight games. 
 
As a team, CSB has 14 goals and an average of 1.17 goals per game. The Bennies have recorded 178 shots (14.80 per game) and ranks fifth in league play for shots on goal with 103. In corner kicks, the Bennies hold a 54-to-39 edge over opponents.
 
Kimble directs CSB Soccer
Head Soccer Coach Steve Kimble, who is in his 15th season, has directed his teams to the top four in the MIAC five times, including a second place finish in 2022 when CSB was 12-5-2 with an 8-2-1 record in league play. Overall, Kimble has a 145-81-29 record at Saint Benedict with a 91-45-14 mark in conference play. CSB has recorded winning seasons in 12 of his 14 years with the program and has finished the year with a winning record 32 of the past 34 years. Kimble has coached three All-Americans, two MIAC Players of the Year, one MIAC Rookie of the Year, 20 All-Region athletes, 34 All-MIAC athletes and 19 All-MIAC Honorable Mention selections.
