ST. JOSEPH, Minn. –
Tracy Renier wrapped up her four years at the College of Saint Benedict in May as the winner of the CSB athletic department's prestigious Presidential Award, which honors a student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom, in her sport and as a leader on campus.
Renier certainly checked all three boxes, and now she is moving forward as Saint Benedict's nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Renier, a four-year member of both the Bennie cross country and track and field teams, is one of 577 nominees from around the NCAA, including one of the 202 Division III nominees. Renier is also 125 multisport student-athletes to be nominated.
An economics major with a double minor in Hispanic studies and communications, Renier graduated in May with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Epsilon Sigma, and was inducted into CSB's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma class on May 1. Prior to graduating, Renier – a distinguished thesis fellow – defended her graduate-level research thesis on Female Economic Participation and Empowerment: The Unseen Gender Variable of Chile's Neoliberal Reform of Retirement.
Renier as served as a Women in Economics Ambassador at CSB/SJU, taught English as a Second Language at SJU in partnership with Casa San Benito, and served as a eucharistic minister, lector and choir member on campus. She was also involved with her home church – the Holy Name of Jesus School and Parish in Wayzata.
On the track, Renier won the 2022 MIAC steeplechase title in May, and a few weeks later she ran the second-fastest steeplechase time in program history to wrap up her career. She also earned All-MIAC in the steeplechase after finishing runner-up as a junior, and she earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention after taking fifth in the 5K at the 2022 indoor championships, and earned honorable mention cross country honors twice.
This fall, Renier is headed to Colombia where she will serve as a Peace Corps Community and Economic Development Volunteer until November 2024.
Now that each school has put forth their nominees for Woman of the Year,
conference offices will vote to select the conference representative to the NCAA Woman of the Year honor. From the conference nominees, the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division of the NCAA – will move forward, and three finalists from each division will be invited to the NCAA Woman of the Year banquet, which will be held for the first time in conjunction with the NCAA Convention in January.
