ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict track and field team sent athletes to two different meets Friday afternoon, and individuals moved up or into the top 10 in program history at both meets.
Senior
Stephanie Pickthorn and first year
Justus Floren went to the pentathlon at the Bison Open in Fargo, while the rest of the team competed at a dual against Macalester in St. Paul.
Both Pickthorn and Floren finished in the top 11 in Grand Forks, and both moved into the top 10 in program history in the pentathlon. Pickthorn took eighth with a score of 2,944 – a 120-point personal-best and the eighth-best score in program history – and Floren took 11
th with a score of 2,860, the ninth-best score in program history.
Pickthorn recorded personal bests in the high jump, shot put and long jump, and finished in the top 12 in all five events. She took 10
th in the 60 hurdles in (9.75 seconds) and shot put (9.76 meters), 11
th in the long jump (4.95) and 800 (2:43.21) and 12
th in the high jump with a mark of 1.47 meters. Floren recorded PRs in the 60 hurdles, high jump and shot put, and her best performance of the day was a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.53 meters. She took 12
th in the 60 hurdles (9.81), 13
th in the shot put (9.59), 15
th in the long jump (4.83) and 20
th in the 800 in 2:52.32.
Meanwhile at Macalester, the Bennies beat the Scots in a MIAC dual, 211-117 thanks to 11 wins, one school record and one other time in the top 10 in program history. Sophomore
Fiona Smith picked up two of those wins and she broke her own school record in the mile. She finished the race in first in 4:55.30 – the first athlete in CSB indoor track and field history to break five minutes in the mile. She also won the 1,000-meter run in 3:02.37, the fifth-best time in program history.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Selisker also picked up a pair of wins in the high jump and long jump. She won the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters and the long jump with a leap of 5.01 meters.
Dacoda Speidel won the 60-meter dash in 8.20 seconds – a career-best time and just outside the top 10 in program history.
Laura Mitch won the 200 in 28.87 seconds and
Kalli Smith won the 600 in 1:46.39.
The Bennies swept the throws with
Haley Joos winning the shot put with a toss of 11.59 meters and
Maggie Beckmann winning the weight throw with a mark of 14.73 meters. CSB also swept the relays, with
Tiana Johnson, Speidel,
Hailey Johnson and
Mirijana Ganley winning the 800-meter relay in 1:52.64 and Johnson, Smith,
Lucy Lyngen and
Tracy Renier winning the 1,600-meter relay in 4:26.98.
Beckmann also took second in the shot (10.96) and Joos finished second in the weight (12.03), and Mitch recorded a second-place finish in the 400, finishing in 64.02 seconds.
Grace Zdechlik took second in the 60 in 8.40 seconds and
Danielle Anderson finished second in the 200 in 29.37 seconds.
Sidela Nyuga finished second in the 600 in 1:46.55 and Anderson took second in the triple jump with a mark of 9.89 meters.
The Bennies are back at home Saturday, Feb. 12, when they host the CSB/SJU Quad starting at 11 a.m. at the McNeely Spectrum on the SJU campus.
