WINONA, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team looks to make history Saturday afternoon when the sixth-seeded Bennies head to Winona for their quarterfinal match up against third-seeded Saint Mary's. CSB is making the second MIAC Tournament appearance in program history – and first since 2002 – and looks to pick up the team's first-ever playoff win. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. at SMU Ice Arena.

Per MIAC policy, fans must be masked in the rink at all times. Live stats and video are available.

About the Cardinals

The Cardinals finished the regular season 12-9-2 overall and 9-5-2 in MIAC play. In their last series of the regular season, they played Bethel where they lost 4-3 in overtime in game one and tied 0-0 in overtime in game two, then won the shootout for the extra point. Three Cardinals are tied for most goals scored on for the team with four each and five Cardinals have a team high of six points total. Goaltender Ary Ziakas has spent the most time between the pipes for the Cardinals, boasting a 2.23 goals-against average, 446 saves, and .920 save percentage.

Last Meeting

The Bennies and the Cardinals met late November this season for their series in Winona. Game one the Cardinals would score in the first two periods and the Bennies would add one in the third but wouldn't be able to even it up and SMU would take the close 2-1 win. The next day the Bennies kicked up the momentum and would score four goals in the first two periods to lead them to split the weekend with the Cardinals with a 4-1 win in game two. Jamie Benzie scored twice in the win, Julia Pias had three assists and Ally Frantzick made 20 saves.

The Storyline

The Bennies finished the regular season 10-11-1 overall and 6-7-1 in MIAC play. The Bennies are looking to make their mark in their first playoff appearance since falling 7-4 to Concordia in 2002. After ending the regular season with pair of losses against Augsburg last weekend, CSB looks to shake those games off and play tough against Saint Mary's. The Bennies have already beat the Cardinals once, and look to use that knowledge to pick up a conference tournament win.

Who to Watch

Senior Annika Brodt leads the team high in goals with seven total. First year Jenna Timm leads in assists with 11 and total points with 16. Senior goaltender Maggie Gilchrist has a 2.10 goals-against average, with 237 saves and a .919 save percentage.
