MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is winding down the regular season as it hits the road for its second match up against league-leading Augsburg on Saturday, Feb. 12 in Minneapolis. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
In accordance with Augsburg and MIAC regulations, during all Augsburg games, masks must be worn at all time at the campus' indoor facilities, including Si Melby Hall. Live stats and video will be available here.
About the Auggies
The Aggies lead the MIAC this season with a 16-2 conference record and 16-5 overall record. The latest game the Auggies played was against Saint Mary's on Wednesday at home, in which they won 64-56 after Saint Mary's led by three points in the first quarter. Anja Smith leads the Auggies in scoring with 15.1 points per game average. Jen Masello leads the team in rebounds with a 9.3 per game average.
Last Meeting
The Bennies and the Auggies last met on Jan. 15 in Claire Lynch Hall where the Bennies held their own against the league leaders but would end up dropping an absolute heartbreaker, losing by just one point with a final score of 63-64. Sophia Jonas scored 17 points. Carla Meyer scored 14 points and had five rebounds and Gabby Martin scored 12 points and had five rebounds in the loss.
The Storyline
With just three games left in the regular season, the Bennies look like they will hold down a top six placement in the standings which will give them a first-round host for their first game of the playoffs. The Bennies are currently 13-8 overall, 10-8 in MIAC play heading into the final stretch of regular season.
Who to Watch
Junior Gabby Martin scored a career-high 17 points, pulled seven rebounds, and had six assists against St. Olaf on Wednesday to lead the Bennies in their win. Junior Tori Szathmary pulled down 11 rebounds against the Oles and continues to lead the team with 7.6 per game average which puts her fourth in the MIAC standings.
