Goals from Erica Golenzer & Addison Stephani lead CSB Soccer to 2-0 win over Hamline

Bennies record eighth win in nine matches and have a 23-3 goal differential in that span

ST. PAUL MINN. – With goals from Erica Golenzer and Addison Stephani, the College of Saint Benedict Soccer Team (10-4, 6-2, 2nd, MIAC) earned its eighth win in the past nine matches after defeating Hamline University (3-7-4, 1-6-1 MIAC), 2-0, in MIAC action on Saturday on the road.
 
CSB improved to 29-2 all-time against Hamline, whom they have defeated for a fifth straight time. The Bennies, which has two straight wins overall, is 13-2 at Hamline with victories in nine of the past 10 matches. The victory helped CSB stay in second place in the MIAC at 6-2.
  
While CSB controlled the match in terms of ball control and shots, Hamline was strong on defense and limited the second highest scoring team in the league (2.4 goals per match) to a pair of goals. But, CSB defense was again strong and limited Hamline to seven shots total in recording a fifth shutout this year.
 
The Bennies scored their opening goal early in the first half as junior forward Erica Golenzer registered her third goal of the season just 2:39 into the match. At half, CSB had a 1-0 lead and an 11-to-4 advantage in shots.
 
The match remained close with the defenses making plays at both ends. It wasn't until 75:32, when first year forward Addison Stephani of St. Ben's scored her third goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage.
 
CSB, which is ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches regional rankings, had a 13-3 shot advantage in the second half and owned a 24-to-7 margin overall. Hamline had 12 saves to five for CSB, which had a second shutout this season from Paige Kahlmeyer. For HU, Lauren Sicora and Ava Braun faced those 24 shots and registered a combined 12 saves.
 
In the past nine matches, CSB owns a 23-3 goal differential with five shutouts. With two more goals today, the Bennies have scored 34 goals on the season.
 
On Sunday, CSB will face a road test as they travel to No. 7 Wartburg College (12-0-2) for a nonconference match at 3 p.m. at Salzwedel Field in Waverly, Iowa.
