CSB basketball back in action Wednesday when Royals come to town

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team looks to continue the new year on a high note and extend its win streak when it hosts Bethel on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in Claire Lynch Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.  
 
Per Saint Benedict campus policy and MIAC policy, fans must be masked in the gym at all times. Live stats and video are available here. 
 
About the Royals 
The Royals are 4-5 overall, 3-3 in conference play so far this season. Their last match-up before the holiday break was a conference game against Saint Mary's which they won 65-51. Kat Brown-Erdal and Hayden Glander scored double-digit points for the Royals. Makenna Pearson leads the team and is 10th in the MIAC in scoring at 12.8 points per game.
 
Last Meeting 
The last time the Bennies and the Royals met on the court was Feb. 27, 2021, in St. Paul where big second and third quarters helped push the Royals to an 81-69 victory over the Bennies. Tori Szathmary, Carla Meyer, and Kate Seyer all put up double-digit points in the loss.  
 
The Storyline 
Saint Benedict is looking to keep the momentum going after breaking a two-loss streak on Monday with a win over Carleton. CSB is 7-2 overall, 4-2 in conference play after the first game of the new year. The Bennies will be on the road next to take on St. Kate's on Saturday, Jan. 8, in St. Paul.  
 
Who to Watch 
Meyer continues to lead the team in points per game (13.6), scoring 19 points against Carleton on Monday, and also leads in assists per game (3.3). Szathmary averages a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game. Gabby Martin had 12 points against the Knights and averages just over 10 points per game, and first year Sophia Jonas had a career-best five assists to help the Bennies come from behind to beat Carleton.
