ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – To wrap up the 2019 season, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team won its first MIAC Tournament game since 2013. The COVID19 pandemic wiped out the team's Fall 2020 season, and the Bennies played a condensed season in Spring 2021.

After playing just six games between November 2019 and May 2021, Saint Benedict is ready to play a full schedule and make a run at the MIAC Tournament in Fall 2021. CSB starts the season with a handful of nonconference games, including the season opener Wednesday, Sept. 1, against Minnesota Morris. Kickoff for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Morris, Minn.

Head coach Steve Kimble's squad trends on the younger side heading into the season, but that doesn't mean the team is lacking experience. Roxy Veldman returns for her senior season after finishing as one of the team's leading scorers in each of her first three seasons. She scored seven goals as a sophomore in 2019, and scored two goals in the team's six games last season. Senior Clara Noack led the team with two assists in the shortened Spring 2021 season, and Ella Hinkemeyer, Lana Krautkremer and Ella Young scored goals as first years last season.

Senior Margo Achterkirch and junior Chloe Miller return to anchor the team's defense and midfield, and Grace Navara is back as a junior defender after her first season with the program in Spring 2021.

Also back is junior goalie Paige Kahlmeyer, who took over as the team's full-time keeper in Spring 2021. She tied her career-best with seven saves four times in six games, and finished the shortened season with 39 total saves. She is joined in the net by first goalies Annie Waters and Natalie Welinksi this season.

After traveling to Morris Wednesday, Saint Benedict hosts Wartburg at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 and UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5. The team starts MIAC play Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 4:30 p.m. against St. Kate's.

Fans are welcome at all home games at the OAC this season. Per CSB campus policy, masks must be worn while inside the OAC, but can be removed outside. The cost of admission for all CSB athletic events is $7 for adults and $3 for non-CSB/SJU students.

Policies for road games will be posted on gobennies.com and the department's social media channels prior to the contests.
