ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Hunter Weiss and Madison Weiss didn't have the opportunity to earn All-American honors on the volleyball court this season due to the COVID19 pandemic, but the duo's work in the classroom this year has them in contention for academic accolades.
 
Both Hunter and Madison earned CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors for the second straight season, it was announced Thursday afternoon. This is the third straight honor for Hunter, who earned all-district honors as a sophomore and junior, and the second for Madison, who, along with Hunter, earned a first team all-region nod as a junior in 2019.
 
Hunter is the first CSB athlete in any sport to earn three Academic All-District honors in a career – each year she was eligible for the award. This also marks just the ninth time in Saint Benedict athletics history that more than one athlete from a sport has been honored in the same season.
 
Both Hunter and Madison are biology majors, and Madison maintained a 3.88 GPA throughout her four seasons with the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team while Hunter kept a 4.0 all four years. She also earned CSB's Scholar-Athlete and Presidential awards last week.
 
Both athletes left their marks on the court as well for the Bennies. Both graduate with more than 1,000 kills, and Madison is just the second athlete in program history to finish a career with more than 1,000 kills and 500 blocks. Hunter finishes her career eighth in school history in total kills and Madison set the school record for blocks in a season in 2019.
 
Both athletes are now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be released later this summer. Hunter earned First Team Academic All-America accolades as a junior – a first for CSB in any sport since 1999-00. CSB hasn't had two athletes in the same sport earn Academic All-America honors since Jacque Dahl and Christi Dold both earned the honor for CSB softball in 1992.
