ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team wrapped up the 2021 season with a sweep of Hamline Friday evening in St. Joseph.
The win marked the final collegiate tennis match for senior
Kayla McIver.
"The players earned a win like today with the work they have put in all season," head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "We played well, and everything seemed to go our way. The night definitely belongs to our senior, Kayla. Kayla is the definition of what it means to be a Bennie and a college athlete. We are going to miss her like crazy, and I think everyone agrees this win goes to her for sure."
The Bennies started the match up 3-0 after sweeping doubles play. McIver teamed up with
Lily Fredericks to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and
Peyton Kopel and
Jane Bodensteiner won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Maria Bedford and
Grace Lee also won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
McIver wrapped up her CSB tennis career with a win at No. 1 singles. She won her final collegiate match 6-0, 6-1. Fredericks won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Kopel won by the same score at No. 3 singles. Bodensteiner won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Bedford won 6-2, 7-6 at No. 5 singles and Lee won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Bennies end the year with a 4-8 overall record and a 2-7 MIAC record.
