SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team dropped a MIAC match to Macalester Friday evening.
The Scots won the match – which had to be moved inside due to wet courts and rainy, cool weather – 8-1 at Sta-Fit in Sartell. CSB is now 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the MIAC with two matches left in the regular season while the Scots are 3-1 overall and in the MIAC.
"Macalester is a solid team this year, and we were in a lot of matches," head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "I thought we played well and we were doing the things we need to do to win. We just need the big points to go our way."
First year
Peyton Kopel picked up the team's lone win of the night Friday at No. 3 singles. After drooping a close first set 7-6, she came back to win the next two 6-2, 10-3.
Macalester swept doubles play to start the match.
Kayla McIver and
Lily Fredericks fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Kopel and
Jane Bodensteiner fell 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Grace Lee and
Maria Bedford wrapped up doubles play with an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles.
McIver fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Fredericks lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Bodensteiner lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Bedford lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and Lee wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 6 singles.
CSB returns to action and is scheduled to be back outside starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, when it hosts St. Olaf at the team's home tennis courts on the CSB campus.
