ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team hits the court again Wednesday with a match against MIAC rival Augsburg starting at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch.

The Bennies have won three straight against the Auggies heading into the match, but Augsburg won three straight before that. CSB looks to protect its home court and pick up win No. 3 on the season in the comfort of home.

Per MIAC policy no fans are allowed, but live stats and video are available here.

ABOUT THE AUGGIES
The Auggies started the Spring 2021 season with a pair of sweeps Saturday at a tri-meet with Saint Mary's and Concordia in Moorhead. Kayla Gjerde had a big day on offense and defense with a team-best 16 kills and 30 digs, and Izzy Barr and Lexie Lang combined for 58 assists.

LAST MEETING
Saint Benedict swept the Auggies in three close sets on Oct. 5, 2019, in Claire Lynch. Augsburg hung close, but CSB won 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22. Gabby Heying had 16 kills and Hunter Weiss added 13, Katie Koch had 39 assists and 12 digs and Madison Weiss had three block assists. The Bennies are currently on a three-match winning streak against the Auggies.

THE STORYLINE
Some new faces have stepped in and made big plays for CSB in each of the team's first two games, and head coach Nicole Hess looks for more of that Wednesday against a tough Auggie squad. The Bennies need to be tough on both offense and defense as Augsburg has some solid hitters at the net.

WHO TO WATCH:
First year libero Mackenzie McDonald had 18 digs to lead the team defensively last week in a sweep of Morris. She has 29 digs to her name in two matches. Hunter Weiss has a team-high 19 kills, Madison Weiss has 18 and first year Emma Guest has 15 kills, including 10 in the team's first match of the season against the Cobbers.
