ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a run to the Elite 8 and having not one but two athletes named First Team All-Americans in 2019, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team was ready to make a run at the NCAA Division III finals in 2020.

The COVID pandemic derailed those plans, but head coach Nicole Hess' squad is still ready to impress and take advantage of every opportunity it is given to compete in the shortened Spring 2021 season.

Saint Benedict starts the season Wednesday, March 24, with a 7 p.m. home MIAC game against Concordia. The Bennies have eight games on their schedule, including five home games. Per MIAC policy no fans are allowed at any indoor contests this season, but live stats and video for all CSB home games is available here.

The Bennies – who finished 26-6 overall and graduated just three seniors in 2019 – bring back a core of talented returners from the Elite 8 run, including four seniors who have played a key role in the team's success for the last three seasons. Leading the charge once again for CSB are Hunter Weiss and Madison Weiss, who both earned First Team All-American honors in 2019 – the first time CSB has had two First Team honorees since 1990.

Hunter also earned MIAC Player of the Year honors in 2019 after finishing the season 10th in Division III with a .396 hitting percentage, 16th with 123 total blocks and in the top 35 with 429 total kills. She has 1,170 kills in her three seasons with the team. Madison led the entire NCAA – regardless of division – with 205 total blocks, and led Division III with 1.7 5blocks per set and a .422 hitting percentage. She is just shy of the 1,000-kill milestone with 967 heading into 2021.

Katie Koch earned All-MIAC honors for the second straight season in 2019 after surpassing the 2,000-assist milestone in her career as a junior. She finished second in the MIAC in assists per set, and earned AVCA All-Central Region Honorable Mention accolades. Bridget McDonald is also back for her senior season after finishing with a career-high 307 digs as a junior, including a career-best 21 on Sept. 18 against Bethel. She has 749 digs to her name in three seasons.

Sophomores Gabby Heying and Maurissa Isaacs are back in 2021 after finishing with more than 100 kills as first years. Heying finished third on the team with 294 kills and Isaacs added 103 kills to go along with 180 digs.

After hosting Concordia Wednesday, CSB is back at home March 31 to take on Augsburg at 7 p.m. Schedules are subject to change; all updates will be posted to www.gobennies.com as well as the department's Twitter and Facebook pages.
