ST. PETER, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team limited the number of shots Gustavus was able to take Saturday afternoon in the series finale between the two teams, but the Gusties found more ways to capitalize.
After giving up 35 shots on net Friday, the Bennies gave up 23 shots to No. 6 Gustavus, but five of those found the net as CSB fell 5-0 to wrap up the weekend in St. Peter. CSB is now 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the MIAC with one game left before the holiday break.
Similar to Friday's fast start, Gustavus scored in the first two minutes of play – this time on the power play – to go up 1-0 just 1:14 into the game. The Gusties added a second goal at the 16:12 mark of the first, and made it 3-0 midway through the second. Gustavus scored two goals in the final five minutes of the game, including a power-play goal with less than a minute and a half remaining.
Ally Frantzick made 18 saves in the net. CSB put 13 shots on net to the Gusties' 23.
Zoe Culshaw-Klein,
Corrine Brown,
Aurora Opsahl and
Ava Stinnett all had two shots on net.
The Bennies wrap up 2021 Wednesday, Dec. 8, when they head to Blaine for a nonconference matchup with Bethel. Then the team is off until Jan. 7-8.
