Maggie Gilchrist had a big night in the net, but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team's offense was quiet Friday night against a ranked Gustavus team.
Gilchrist made a season-best 33 saves against the No. 6 Gusties as the Bennies fell 2-0 in St. Cloud.
Gustavus (6-0, 3-0) came out firing, and scored the eventual game-winner in the first two minutes of play. Saint Benedict settled in, and Gilchrist finished the first period with 14 saves. The Gusties added a second goal at the on the power play at the 11:52 mark of the second just seconds after a faceoff.
CSB pulled Gilchrist for nearly three minutes at the end of the game, and
Zoe Culshaw-Klein had several shots – including one on net – but the Bennies were unable to score.
Gustavus had 35 shots on net to the Bennies' 16. Culshaw-Klein and Addy Hackely both put three shots on net.
The two teams play again at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Don Roberts Arena in St. Peter.
