ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team only has three losses to its name this season – and one loss in MIAC play.

Saturday afternoon, the Bennies have the chance to avenge that loss in the biggest game of the season.

Saint Benedict takes on St. Kate's Saturday in the MIAC Championship game. The top-seeded Wildcats host the championship game for the second time in program history starting at 1 p.m. in St. Paul. This marks the first time in MIAC history the two all-women's schools have met in the conference championship game in any sport.

Tickets for the conference championship game are $10 for adults and $2 for students. Only MIAC passes will be accepted. Live stats and video of the game are available here.

The winner of Saturday's contest earns the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships, which start Saturday, Nov. 13.

This marks the first MIAC championship appearance for Saint Benedict since the Bennies won the league's regular-season and tournament titles in 2013. That was just two years after the Bennies won both MIAC titles in 2011 and made it all the way to the Sweet 16. St. Kate's won the MIAC title in 2017 as the No. 5 seed and fell to Chicago in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Both the Wildcats and Bennies head into Saturday's game on impressive winning streaks. Saint Benedict has won seven straight games and is unbeaten in its last 12 games. The last time CSB lost was Sept. 15 when the Wildcats came to St. Joe and beat the Bennies 1-0 thanks to a single goal in the second half. The Wildcats are on a 10-game unbeaten streak and haven't lost since falling 2-1 to Saint Mary's on Sept. 25. St. Kate's is 13-1-3 overall in 2021 and the Bennies head into the championship game 11-3-3.

The mid-September matchup wasn't the only time the Wildcats have given CSB trouble in recent memory. St. Kate's is riding a five-game winning streak over the Bennies dating back to Oct. 9, 2018. The September meeting between the two was the closest game since CSB fell 1-0 at St. Kate's in the 2018 MIAC Quarterfinals.

The Wildcats boast the MIAC's leading scorer in Amanda Elton, who has 15 goals and also leads the league with 33 points this season. She took over as St. Kate's single-season goals leader thanks to her hat trick against Gustavus in the MIAC Semifinals. Lauren Witte is tied for third in the conference with five assists.

CSB senior Roxy Veldman is fourth in the MIAC with eight goals and Sydney Burns continues to hold the team lead with four assists. Both teams have solid keepers as the Wildcats' Kate Praetz is second in the league with a 0.63 goals-against average and Paige Kahlmeyer (0.65) and Annie Waters (0.80) are fourth and fifth, respectively. Saint Benedict has given up just 13 goals this season and the Wildcats have given up 11.

Heading into Saturday's game, St. Kate's is second in the NCAA Region IX rankings and the Bennies are sixth.
