ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Mary Wenisch has been a consistent presence for the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team's defense for four years.
 
From a Sweet 16 run her first season to the team's run to the Elite 8 during her sophomore year in 2019, Wenisch was a part of many big moments with the Bennies. She recorded the 500^th dig of her career in the team's second game of the season thanks to 18 digs against Chicago, and will graduate with more than 700 digs to her name.
 
On Friday, Wenisch plays the final regular-season match of her career in Claire Lynch Hall, so CSB Athletics caught up with the team's lone senior to reflect on her career.
 
What are some goals you had coming in as a first year, and how did they pan out?
One major goal I had coming in as a first year was to just make the team and prove myself to find a spot on the court. This goal panned out well and quicker than I was expecting it to. I definitely found my fit on the team and worked hard to accomplish this goal. Another major goal I had coming in as a first year was to work hard to compete in practice and push my teammates and myself to be the best that we could be. This was extremely noticeable early on in my career here, since everyone always pushed each other and it made us a tough group to beat.
 
A final goal I had coming in as a first year was to push myself to be both a better player and person. I think this also panned out as I have seen growth in myself as a player on the court in my abilities and I have also become a much stronger person off the court. 
 
What is your favorite memory with the CSB volleyball team?
It is hard to pick just one favorite memory with the CSB volleyball team, but I will never forget the Elite 8 run or the trip to Scotland. 
 
What advice would you give incoming volleyball players?
Enjoy every minute of it. It is over in a blink of an eye no matter how slow it seems to be going. Also, step out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there - take the risks. It will benefit you in the long run. Always be your teammates' biggest fan no matter what. It is an incredible experience and do not ever take it for granted! 
 
It has been an amazing ride and CSB volleyball will be something very hard to let go of.
