ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – For the first time in 46 weeks, the College of Saint Benedict department will have a team in action this weekend.
The Bennie hockey team kicks off the shortened 2021 season and becomes CSB's first team to play since March 9, 2020, this Friday, Jan. 29, when it heads to St. Paul to take on St. Thomas in a nonconference game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
When the MIAC Presidents cleared the way for winter sports to start competing earlier this month, they set in place a series of protocols to keep athletes, coaches and support staff safe from COVID19. Basketball, hockey, track and field and swim and dive have been practicing in accordance with state, local and college guidelines, including social distancing and masking.
The MIAC Presidents also decided that no fans would be allowed at any events this winter season to try and keep the number of people at games and meets to a minimum to avoid spreading COVID19 as much as possible. While fans are not allowed in the rinks, gyms, pools and field houses, there will be plenty of ways to keep track of the Bennies online this winter.
All CSB home hockey and basketball games will be broadcast live at
https://portal.stretchinternet.com/csb/. The CSB athletic department upgraded its streaming system during the pause in sports so that Bennie Nation can watch its favorite teams on a quality stream. Live stats will also be available for home hockey and basketball games, and live results will be available for home track and field meets.
When CSB is on the road, links to live video, stats and results will be available on each sport's schedule page at
www.gobennies.com.
All schedules are subject to change in 2021 as teams work through COVID19 protocols including contact tracing, quarantine and isolation periods. Schedule updates will be posted on gobennies.com as well as the department's
Twitter and
Facebook pages.
