CSB basketball returns home to host Scots

After a close loss to a ranked Augsburg team Saturday, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team is looking to to turn things around with a win this Wednesday. CSB hosts Macalester College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Claire Lynch Hall.
 
At halftime of Wednesday's game, CSB will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day and honor head cross country and track and field coach Robin Balder-Lanoue '91 as she receives the 2020 Bennie Spotlight Award. There will also be a short reception after the game.
 
About the Scots
Macalester is 1-20 overall this season and 0-16 in the conference. The Scots' one win comes from an early tournament game against Johnson and Wales University with an end score of 72-42. The Scots are averaging 56.5 points per game, and leading the charge is Justine Barraza who is averaging 13.5 points per game and has an overall season total of 283 points.
 
Last Meeting
The last time these two teams met was the end of last season. CSB won by nine points, 67-56. Four CSB players had over 10 points this game, led by Alex Johnson and Sidney Schiffler with 16, Megan Thompson had 13 points and Maddie Schmitz had 12 points. Overall against the Scots CSB is 49-3, including 24-1 at home.
 
Storyline
This Wednesday is an important game for Saint Bens as the team is 10-11 overall and 6-10 in the conference. A win would push the Bennies' record to be .500 on the season and improve their conference record. It would also give them some good momentum going into their conference rivalry game Saturday against St. Thomas.
 
Who to Watch
In last Saturday's game, both Megan Thompson and Sidney Schiffler scored double digits for CSB, keeping them at the top of the scoring charts. Thompson is averaging 11.7 points so far this season and Schiffler is right behind at 11.0 points per game. Alex Johnson leads the team and is second in the MIAC with 8.4 rebounds per game, and Maddie Schmitz is second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game.
