CSB basketball looks to get back on track against Wildcats

01/07/2020

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After starting the season with a majority of its games at home, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team looks to take advantage of its time in Claire Lynch in 2020. When CSB hosts St. Kate's at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, that marks one of just four home games in an 11-game stretch for the Bennies in January and early February.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats have struggled this season, especially in MIAC play. St. Kate's lone conference win was a 79-77, double overtime win against Saint Mary's. SCU has lost four of its last five games, including an overtime loss against Bethany Lutheran. Danice Cambrice leads the team and is top five in the MIAC in both scoring and rebounds per game.

LAST MEETING
St. Kate's and Saint Benedict split last season, with each team winning on its home court. The Wildcats won 76-63 on Dec. 5 in St. Paul, but CSB won 64-49 on Jan. 16 in St. Joe. Sidney Schiffler led four players in double digits with 16 points, Megan Thompson and Alex Johnson both had 12 and Maddie Schmitz had nine. CSB won the rebounding battle 42-31.

THE STORYLINE
Saint Benedict looks to get back in the 'W' column before it hits the road for a handful of games in January. The team's last win was against Hamline on Dec. 7, and the Bennies know that winning on the road is tough in a league as competitive as the MIAC.

WHO TO WATCH
Megan Thompson had 18 points and a career-high eight rebounds Saturday in the team's loss to Augsburg. CSB hung right with the 16th-ranked Auggies until the final quarter. Alex Johnson added 12 points and eight rebounds for CSB. Thompson and Johnson lead the team in scoring, and Johnson and Maddie Schmitz are the team's top rebounders. Thompson is also in the top six in the MIAC in both assists and steals per game.
