ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – To kick off the 2019-20 season, the bulk of the College of Saint Benedict basketball team's games were in the comfort of Claire Lynch. As the team reaches the midway point of the season, it is on the road more than it is at home the remainder of the season.
CSB kicks off a two-game road trip Saturday when it heads to St. Paul to take on No. 22 St. Thomas at 3 p.m. The Bennies head into the MIAC matchup looking to snap a five-game losing streak, while the Tommies are trying to build on a two-game winning streak.
About the Tommies
After starting the season 6-0, St. Thomas lost two straight MIAC games and went 1-3 in a four-game stretch in December. The 22
nd-ranked Tommies got back on track with a pair of MIAC wins to start 2020, including a 22-point win at St. Olaf Wednesday. Brynne Rolland leads the team and is one of three players to average double digits scoring at 15.3 points per game. Macy Hatlestad and Amber Darge also average double digits, and Shayla Wallin leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game.
Last Meeting
A strong St. Thomas team stifled the Bennies' offense last season, winning 90-31 in St. Paul. The Tommies jumped to a 27-6 lead after one quarter and never let up. Shae Olsn had six points and six rebounds to lead CSB, which shot just 19 percent from the field. Saint Benedict is looking to snap a 12-game losing streak to the Tommies. The Bennies haven't beaten UST in St. Paul since Jan. 17, 2007.
The Storyline
The Bennies are looking to get back to the basics after a handful of tough losses. The team started the season strong with six solid wins, and looks to get back on track as it is on the road for nine of its last 14 games of the regular season. After hosting Bethel Jan. 18 and Saint Mary's on Jan. 20, CSB only has three home games remaining in the 2019-20 regular season.
