Weiss’ career high helps CSB down Wildcats in five

ST. PAUL, Minn. – On a night when the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team couldn't get into its normal offensive rhythm, Madison Weiss found hers to help keep the team undefeated in MIAC play.
 
Weiss recorded a career-high 26 kills to help lift CSB to a five-set win against St. Kate's. The Wildcats won the first set 26-24 in St. Paul, but Saint Benedict came back to win sets two and three 25-21 and 25-18, but St. Kate's won the fourth 25-19 to force a fifth and final set. After CSB took an early lead, the Wildcats came back, but the Bennies held on for the 15-13 win.
 
CSB is now 13-1 overall and on a 10-match winning streak. Saint Benedict is also 2-0 in MIAC play with a pair of five-set victories under its belt.
 
Saint Benedict – which is hitting .281 on the season as a team and has six matches with a .300 hitting percentage or better, hit .174 against the Wildcats (9-6, 0-2) and a season-high 25 attack errors. The Wildcats struggled at the net as well, hitting .126 with 27 attack errors.
 
Weiss hit above .500 for the sixth time this season as she finished Wednesday's match with 256kills and just three errors on 44 attempts for a .523 percentage. She also added seven block assists and a career-high five solo blocks.
 
Hunter Weiss added 10 kills for Saint Benedict to go along with seven block assists and Gabby Heying had seven kills. Katie Koch finished with 44 assists and 11 digs, and Haley LaValle led the defense with 25 digs. Mary Wenisch added 16 digs and Bridget McDonald also chipped in with 12 digs.
 
Emma Nelson led the Wildcats with 13 kills and Lauren Isaacson had 12. Marissa Gilbertson had 27 assists, and Nelson also had a match-high 33 digs.
 
CSB is on the road this weekend as it heads to Indianola, Iowa, for three matches at the Simpson Tournament. The team takes on UW-River Falls at 5 p.m. Friday, then host-school Simpson at 11 a.m. Saturday and Principia at 1 p.m. Saturday.
