ST. JOSEPH, Minn – After four wins in the UW-River Falls tournament last weekend and moving up to No. 8 in the rankings, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team heads into conference play with momentum. CSB travels to Bethel on Wednesday for its first MIAC game of the season. Game time is 7 p.m.
About the Royals
Bethel has had a solid season so far, and is 5-4 overall. The Royals head into Wednesday's game on a two-game losing streak after going 1-2 at their home invitational last weekend, with both losses coming in five-set games. Maria Claflin leads the team with 141 kills and 37 blocks, and Hannah Wilhite is right behind her with 83 kills and leads the team with 278 assists.
Last Meeting
CSB and Bethel played once last year, with CSB winning 25-20, 25-23, and 25-16. This game put CSB at 6-0 in MIAC play for the first time since 2008.
Hunter Weiss led the team with 11 kills, and she also had two blocks.
Madison Weiss also had a big game with nine kills and five blocks, and
Haley LaValle led the team with 34 digs.
The Storyline
CSB is 11-1 and on the season so far, and the team looks to be 12-1, while Bethel is looking to end its two-game losing streak. Both teams are looking to get their first MIAC win and start conference play on a high note. This game will be the only one for CSB this week, as the team in back in action Wednesday, Sept. 25, to take on St. Catherine.
Who to Watch
The Weiss sisters had a strong showing at the River Falls tournament. After the four matches there, Hunter is at 158 kills and 29 blocks on the season, and Madison has 125 kills and 51 blocks on the season.
Katie Koch has 424 assists and Hayley LaValle has 155 digs so far this year. Hunter leads the nation in hitting percentage, Madison is fourth in blocks, blocks per set and hitting percentage and Koch is third in Division III in assists per set.
