RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team wrapped up a second straight 4-0 weekend Saturday afternoon with two more wins at the Falcon Invite, hosted by UW-River Falls.
CSB started the day with a 3-1 win against Northwestern – a team it swept exactly one week ago – and then wrapped up the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Northland College in River Falls. Saint Benedict is now 11-1 overall heading into MIAC play and heads into the conference season riding an eight-match winning streak.
In the first set of the day, Northwestern kept things close – and forced a fourth set after picking up a win in set three – but CSB came away with the win: 25-19, 25-21, 16-25 and 25-16.
Gabby Heying had three straight kills near the end of the first set to help CSB pull away for the win. The Eagles led 20-19 in set two, but
Madison Weiss had back-to-back kills, and the set ended with a block from Weiss and
Katie Koch.
Northwestern led 8-0 early in Set 3 and Saint Benedict was never able to fully recover, but the team bounced back and took a 17-9 lead thanks to a kill from
Emily Marso before pulling away for the win. Heying and
Hunter Weiss both finished with 12 kills to lead the team, which had 46 total kills. Koch had 38 assists, both Hunter and Madison had six block assists and
Haley LaValle led the defense with 11 digs. CSB had 14 total blocks to Northwestern's five.
In the team's second match of the day, CSB beat Northland 25-19, 25-9 and 25-12. Hunter had 15 kills, Madison had 10 and Marso and Haying both finished with eight. Koch added 39 assists to her weekend total, and LaValle finished with 11 blocks and
